On Tuesday, May 12, Kelvin Evans — the man charged with breaking into a rental vehicle belonging to Beyoncé’s choreographer and one of her dancers during her Cowboy Carter Tour last year — pleaded guilty in a Fulton County courtroom in Atlanta and was sentenced to two years in prison, followed by three years on probation.
The break-in happened on July 8, 2025, inside a parking deck at Krog Street Market in Atlanta while the tour was in town. Evans allegedly smashed the window of a Jeep Wagoneer belonging to choreographer Christopher Grant and made off with two suitcases and several hard drives. Those drives contained watermarked music, unreleased tracks, footage plans for the show, and both past and future setlists. In short, some of the most guarded data in the music industry.
What led investigators to Evans? A pair of stolen Apple AirPods Max headphones that were still pinging. Surveillance footage from the parking deck confirmed the rest. Evans was facing up to six years total on two charges — entering an automobile and criminal trespass — but the second count was merged into the first under the plea agreement. He’s not eligible for parole, and with a prior parole violation and several similar break-in cases on his record, the court made clear this wasn’t a close call.
The stolen music was never publicly leaked, which is about the best possible outcome given the circumstances. Beyoncé’s camp has not publicly commented on the sentencing.
