Euphoria Has Officially Broken the Internet — Is Rue Actually Dead?

Season 3 Episode 5's ending left Zendaya's Rue buried to the neck and staring down a polo mallet. Fans are losing their minds, and Episode 6 isn't until Sunday.

It’s been barely 48 hours since Euphoria Season 3 dropped Episode 5, and the discourse has not slowed down for a single second. If you’ve been avoiding spoilers — turn back now, because we need to talk about what happened.

By the end of “This Little Piggy,” Rue Bennett is buried up to her neck in the dirt at Alamo’s desert compound, watching him ride toward her on horseback, polo mallet raised. The screen cuts to black. Zendaya is also completely absent from the Episode 6 preview trailer. That’s it. That’s what we’re sitting with until Sunday.

The episode itself was a slow burn that built to that moment with brutal efficiency. Rue’s undercover DEA arrangement — which already felt impossible to sustain — collapsed when she tried to frame the character Magick (played by singer Rosalía) by planting cocaine in her locker. Magick immediately figured it out and reported Rue to Alamo, who organised the execution-style burial sequence that now has the entire fandom in free fall.

Meanwhile, the episode’s other storylines kept things moving: Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) is ascending fast, parlaying an OnlyFans moment and a viral marketing collaboration into an actual acting audition, even landing a role after performing a Shakespeare monologue. It’s outrageous and somehow completely in character for where this show has taken her.

The question of whether Rue survives feels almost too enormous to answer, because she’s not just the lead — she’s the narrator. She’s the reason any of this makes sense. If she’s gone, what exactly is Season 3 even finishing? Episode 6 arrives on HBO and Max on May 17.
